Lily’s life is surrounded by misery. Her dad, T-Ray, makes it miserable for her and for Rosaleen. He doesn’t take good care of Lily when she needs it the most. Lily accidentally killed her mother, with a shotgun. T-Ray will never forgive Lily for the incident. I think Lily is a nice girl, who definitely speaks her mind when she needs to. Some of Rosaleen’s charms have rubbed off on Lily. Somewhat. My thoughts is that Lily should be able to do what she wants and to have her own freedom. If she wants to runaway, like her mother, she should be allowed.
ReplyDeleteLily killed her mom leaving her with regret and sadness. She lives with an abusive father that does not care about what she thinks. Because of the loneliness and nonrecognition and showing of love , she has become shy and a loner.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts about lily is that she would be low ranked so to say. Just using an example, but in school there's the popular s, and the weirdos and a bunch of different categories. She clearly is not popular because she doesn't have many friends, and doesn't do activities with other people and gets involved. Also she does not have nicer clothes or designers. Sadly, the outside reflects your status in school, and even when your an adult. But there are people that are popular, but in their clique. There are people that are generalized into one clique. I , am accepted in many cliques because i have stayed friends with people from a young age, and once they were into a clique, I was part of it too. So if Lily was popular in one clique, she would be able to get more friends and such. And being outgoing is key to have many friends and to be accepted in different cliques. But another sad thing is, if you hang out with the higher status group one day or a couple in a row, the lower status friends get jealous. And when you are with your lower status friends that seem to be more real, the higher status, they do not get jealous, they just say stuff or give looks at me and them. So Lily has to learn how to open up, balance friendships, and talk about her feeling to be okay about herself.
Due to the fact that Lily doesn’t have a mother she doesn’t have the fashion sense that other girls her age have. Also, due to the fact that Lily’s father T-Ray is so abusive Lily thinks that kneeling on uncooked grits is commonplace inside of any given household. Lily even said “I felt half the time I was impersonating a girl instead of really being one. She thought that she might as well wear a sign that says “I am not popular and never will be. She always had low self esteem witch wasn’t helped at all by her “unladylike” actions in public. She picked off scabs (which I can assume were caused by T-Ray) and when she didn’t she gnawed the flesh around her fingernails until she was a bleeding wreck. Lily only had one friend in the world in Rosaleen. Rosaleen was pretty much the only person that she could talk to about her life. Rosaleen took the place of Lily’s mother and Lily even dreamed about them actually being mother and daughter. In one of the dreams Lily called New York a “Far off country.” When Lily woke up and had a rose petal stain in her panties she didn’t have a soul to show it to but Rosaleen. When Lily found the bag full of mementos of her mother she quickly became slightly obsessed with them. She filled the white gloves her mother wore with cotton balls and held them through the night. I personally think that Lily is too worried about her appearance and not worried enough about important things.
ReplyDeleteLily's family situation impacts her big time. It is mainly the reason she has even a few (if that) friends. In her mind she probably thinks "If my own father couldn't love me and stick around for me, how is anybody going to love me?" That is what I would think if I was in her position.
ReplyDeleteI personally love Lily. She is a very nice girl and she has great manners. I am surprised she had not done anything devious and evil considering who her father is. I predict that T. Ray will probably try to apologize to her, but knowing Lily, she would do what's best and shut him out of her life ... forever.
Lily’s family situation is odd. She has a horrible father, a stand in mother who is also her only friend. But with all this going on, it had an impact on her personality. She’s a little bit more grateful and a lot lonelier. I feel horrible for her. She shot her mother which she doesn’t remember much, and she also has a rude and inconsiderate father. T.Ray always finds way to punish her and make her feel like dirt. But then there’s a small light when she’s with Rosaleen. She cleans the house and makes dinner, but she’s also Lily’s best friend. Lily usually feels better when Lily’s around her, she acts more herself.
ReplyDelete~Secretflower1~
Lily's family life has made her tough and hard and does not have the ability to love because she has never been loved herself.
ReplyDelete~This is not finished!
Lily has a tuff life living without her mother and living with T. Ray. T. Ray is one of the meanest people alive and to make matters worst, he is Lily’s father. T. Ray is a bad father because he lies to her, and curses at her and makes her feel like nobody likes her.
ReplyDeleteOn page 38 and 39, “Go ahead try and hit me!” I yelled. When he swung, I turned my face. It was a clean miss. I ran for the bed and scrambled on the middle of it, breathing hard. “My mother will never let you touch me again!” I shouted.
“Your mother?” His face was bright red. “You think that god damn women gave a shit about you?”
“My mother loved me!” I cried.
In this part of the book T. Ray treats Lily as if she is dirt to him. He doesn’t care about her and he doesn’t know that he is hurting her feels every time he says something like that to her. I feel really bad for Lily and think it was smart of her to run away from them. Also it was smart of her to bring Rosaleen along with her because she would have never survived by herself.
I think that Lily is a very smart little girl and doesn’t deserve to have a father like T. Ray. All he does is puts her down and that isn’t good for anyone to hear anything negative about themselves all the time.
Lily Owens is a young girl whose life really is being taken away by the guilt of an accident that no one is sure happened for real. She doesn’t have many friends, because T. Ray does not seem like the type of dad that is willing to drive her places and encourage her to have friends over. I believe she doesn’t have any friends to lean on in the way that I know I would lean on my best friends if anything in my life was going as wrong as it was in hers. When you have no one to talk to and you keep everything your feeling inside of you, it will just “eat right through you” as Lily plainly puts it in the book. When you keep everything inside you can never recover from something you feel bad about, or feel a little more whole. A big part of her life is missing, the part where she feels loved. The only person she knows that would care at all about her is Rosaleen, and even though Rosaleen has been an amazing help, one person can not fill the gap of two parents and friends. I know how I feel when I’m sad and I could really relate to Lily in that way, because it’s what she feels everyday. I believe she lives with the aching feeling in her heart and the scratchy feeling in the back of her throat all the time. So much in fact that it became almost normal for her. In my opinion, if Lily surrounds herself with people that care about her and only want what is best for her, the aching feeling in her heart will slowly start to subside.
ReplyDeleteLily's family life has definitely shaped her into who she is turning out to be. She lost her mother when she was young and her father abuses her. When her mother died, her father grabbed one of the peach orchard workers named Rosaleen and made her Lily's stand in mother and their nanny. Going through all this has made Lily tough and in a way has given her a weak mind as well. Being with rosaleen has made lily tough becasue Lily gets to see how Rosaleen has the ability to stand up for herself. That helps when she eventually gains the courage to stand up to T.Ray by telling him that he doesn't scare her. Her family situation has also given her a weak mind. Lily had accidentally picked a gun up off the floor and it accidentally went off. Her mother was killed as a result. Lily feels that she is a terribl person and that she took her mother away, the one thing she ever wanted. Lily also feels that no one really loves her and that makes her depressed at times. Her father doesn't really care about her and her mother isn't there to protect her. Since her mother isn't around, she doesn't get the most popular clothes and she is forced to wear clothes she makes herself. T. ray and Rosaleen don't have much of a fashion sense. Those outfits were only what the "Pentecoatal" girls wear. The girls at her school make fun of her and she doesn't feel she looks good on the outside.
ReplyDeleteAs we read more of the story, I can begin to see Lily's personality begin to form. The reader is able to learn more about her. I believe that she is really insecure and is easily influenced by others. Lily said that she is always so concerned with how she looks that she feels like she is impersonating a girl instead of being one. I believe that Lily should embrace who she is and try to enhance the good things about her instead of trying to be like others. I believe while she is in Tiburon she will be able to realize who she is and will love herself for who she naturally is.
Lily Melissa Owens struggles growing up because of her life at home. Her mother died when Lily was only four years of age, and her dad is abusive to her. This makes Lily lonely, which describes her personality. She doesn’t really have friends because she had nobody at home to buy her clothes or keep her up to date on the latest fashion, since T. Ray doesn’t care, and that is what mothers are suppose to be there for. On page 13, Lily says, “The oddest things caused me to miss her. Like training bras. Who was I going to ask about that? And who but my mother could’ve understood the magnitude of driving me to junior cheerleader tryouts?” Lily needs her mom there for these things, and so much more! She is also lonely and doesn’t have any friends because her dad won’t allow her to go to any parties or have any friends over. The last time she was truly loved was by her mom when she was four. She is now fourteen. It has been over ten years since Lily has felt loved, which makes her have a sad personality. She is also sad because she has to work at the peach stand all day over the summer, and it is not a typical day unless she has to kneel on grits or suffer another type of punishment. I know that if I was abused daily and not allowed to have friends, my personality would be sad and lonely, just like Lily’s.
ReplyDeleteI think that Lily is a very innocent girl. Yes, she did shoot her very own mother, but you have to keep in mind that she was only four. You have to be a genius to have a clue what you’re doing when you are all of four years old. She defiantly doesn’t deserve the punishments that T. Ray gives her, but she is also very smart not trying to talk back to him, knowing that he will just worsen the already cruel punishment. I feel bad for her not growing up with a mother there to go to her sports or school functions, or there to help her when she needs friend advice. All she has to look forward to when she goes home everyday is what punishment T. Ray will have in store for her that day. I think that if she grew up in a somewhat “normal” family, she would be much happier and have friends and family she could look to for help. Normal is a very broad word. What is normal? Maybe what we think is normal really isn’t. The normal family that I am thinking of consists of a mother who loves Lily very truly and supports her with everything she does. My normal family also includes a dad who asks Lily about her school life and cares if she’s getting bullied or having any other problems. But Lily doesn’t have a “normal” family, and she had to learn to adapt to that over the years she didn’t have a mom and got abused by her dad. She is very strong and brave, however, for dealing with this unusual family life for ten years.
Lily's family life has made her tough and hard and does not have the ability to love because she has never been loved herself.
ReplyDeleteI believe that she has the ability to love but not able to express it to anyone except Rosaleen because she doesn't have and thing or one to love.
Lily’s family situation has impacted her personality because she basically never had parents. Her Father is a jerk to her and pretty much doesn’t care about her. Her Mother died when she was very young, and that was the only form of REAL family she has ever had. Rosaleen loves her, but she is not part of her real family. Her mother supposedly loved her, and she died when Lily was still a baby. She is now a sad emotional person, because she was not raised up with love, and caring parent(s).
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on Lily are that she would be a happy cheerful person if she had a loving set of parents that cared for her when she was young. Since her “routes” where not brought up right when she “blooms” she will not be right. For example, if a parent never thought a child good manner, when they grow up they will not be polite people. Since Lily was never loved she will not love when she grows up.
Lily’s family situation has shaped the person she is now. For example, her father mistreats her, and he doesn’t buy her the clothes she needs. This has caused Lily to become very independent because she has to make her own clothes during her home economics class. Even though Lily is very independent, the clothes she makes is out of style. When she walks through the halls during school people whisper about her and make fun of her. She doesn’t have any friends. Lily knows she will never be popular and this really decreases her self-esteem. I think living with T.Ray has made her a very sneaky child. Since he is so strict she tries to avoid him and lives a life of secrets. Lily may also have problems trusting people since her own dad is so mean to her. You can tell she doesn’t trust many people because she told August a bunch of lies about herself and she doesn’t want to let the truth out. On top of that she lives a life of guilt, knowing that she was the one who took her mom’s life away. Now that Lily doesn’t have a mom, Rosaleen is her “stand in” mother and Lily always looks up to her. You can tell that Lily really respects Rosaleen because she says “Her heart was more tender than a flower skin and she loved me beyond reason.” A lot of Rosaleen’s actions influence what Lily does. For example, Lily stole snuff from the store in Tiburon and she probably learned that from Rosaleen when she stole fans from the church. This could be bad for Lily because she will continue to do things that aren’t right, but Rosaleen could also have a good influence on Lily. Lily may learn to have more self-confidence and learn to stand up for herself more often just like Rosaleen does.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for Lily because she feels guilty for killing her mom. I think she blames herself too much since she was only a little girl and it was an accident. With more love and kindness in her life, Lily could end up being pretty successful. She could go to college since she is a good writer who loves to read. With a more supportive family, Lily could achieve a lot. I think that staying with August will change Lily’s personality dramatically and she will come out as a totally different person. By living with the Boatwright’s, she will be able to experience what a real family is like and how they live. I predict that Lily will learn the true aspect of a family; how to care, trust, and love one another despite their many flaws. I think that living with the Boatwright’s will be the turning point in Lily’s life.

* How has Lily's family situation impacted her personality?
* What are your thoughts about her?
Lily has grown up with a father that is very hateful and Rosaleen. Rosaleen is the only person that has any feelings for Lily. Because Lily has no family her personality has been affected. Lily is different because she didn’t get to grow up with a mom. She had to learn everything from Rosaleen. The things that they do are completely different. So this changed Lily. Her father abused her making a hard person to be friends with. Her personality is shy and not good at making friends because she has very limited amount of friends. It tells me that she needs friends to help her through her tough life.
Lily's family situation has impacted her in many ways. Lily was practically abused by her father T. Ray. Lily accidentally killed her mother when she was young, and now she acts like an adult at the age of 14. Lily really never had the chance to be kid. whenever she is thinking, she thinks about the lies t. ray says to her, and how she killed her mother, who was the most important person in her life

ReplyDeleteHer family problems have shaped her life in many ways. Such as since t-ray always uses the Martha whites she has become tougher. She also said that she doesn’t want to call him dad because he doesn’t act like a father. She has become known to not trust people and now can live on her own.
I think she is a very strong girl for her age. I also think that she is a nice girl but it would be nice if she didn’t have such a bad child hood with her mom dying and getting abused by t-ray.
Lily’s family situation has impacted her personality greatly. She lives with her father, who doesn’t even act like a father, has no mother, and no friends. The only person that is somewhat close to a family member for Lily is Rosaleen, who works with Lily’s father in the peach orchard. Rosaleen is the worker and the only one that’s there for Lily when she needs someone. Lily has referred to Rosaleen as her “stand in” mother. The lack of family that Lily possesses impacts her personality. She’s quiet and a loner because she doesn’t have any friends or anyone to spend time with. Lily also has a hard time being happy, due to the fact that T. Ray is always making her miserable. If Lily were to have an actual family that cared for her, she may be more relaxed and happier.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts about Lily are that she needs a friend. Lily is extremely lonely, with only Rosaleen to keep her company. Even so, Lily doesn’t have any friends her own age or actual parents that love her. She lacks care and love from others, which is what she needs. I feel bad for Lily, but I also admire her in a way for staying so strong in her situation. Even though T. Ray is mean, and her family situation is an unfortunate one, Lily still gets through it all.
Lily’s family situation impacted her immensely. Lily never really knew her mother who could by her clothes, bracelets, and other things that are popular at that time. T.Ray doesn’t really care about any of that kind of stuff. I think that is why Lily doesn’t have many friends. Her house is also a long walking distance from town and T.Ray refuses to drive her to town so she doesn’t have a very social life. Also, the only two people that pay any attention to Lily are Rosaline and her language arts teacher so she never had many people to love her and care for her. I think this impacted her personality negatively because she has little confidence from her lack of desirable clothes and accessories, and the little social time she has. She also is a very lonely girl because she has barely anyone who cares about her. Even if Lily did acquire friends T.Ray would never drive Lily to that new friend’s house, or allow Lily to bring a friend to her house. In the beginning of the book Lily mentioned she’s never gone to a sleep over or never had another friend to come over to her house.
ReplyDeleteLily Owens has a very difficult family situation. Since, her mother was killed when she was young she really doesn’t know what it feels like to be loved. T. Ray (Lily’s father) is a very bad father when it comes to giving Lily the attention and love she needs. T. Ray would always hold Lily back from wearing fashionable clothes, go to sleepovers, or just be a teenager. He would tell her “hell would be an ice rink before she went out like that” when Lily would ask to wear the newest styles to school. I think Lily is just lonely and doesn’t have anybody to love because she has no friends and because of her parent situation. I think that Lily is an unlucky kid to have T. Ray as a father and all the other things that happened to her, but I also think that she is determined to find someone that will love her.
ReplyDeleteWhen Lily was five years old she shot her mother accidently with a gun and ever since then her life has been a living torture on top of T. Ray and even racism. Her life will never be normal, the way she sees a normal life to be. From the information given in the book before the death of her mother, Lily was a happy little five years old, she was a mothers-girl and never let go of her, always right under her feet. (pg. 53, first 3 lines on page) Now, after the death, Lily blames herself for everything even though she was so young and didn't know what she was doing. "How I hated T. Ray, and the girls at school, but mostly myself for talking away my mother." (pg. 71 pg.3) Lily never forgave herself for something she can hardly remember. Lily has no friends at school and she is the weird one put that gets made fun of because of her clothes and hair. She can't except the way she looks and thinks that being and looking different is bad when it is not. When Lily is alone even though she often thinks of her mother she has an opinion on hat going on in the world and is more lively. In my opinion, Lily need to forgive herself for her mistake which could be the hardest thing in her life to do but, in the end she will be happier and move on with her life.
ReplyDeleteLily’s family situation has impacted her personality by making her a more independent person. Even though T-Ray punishes her in numerous ways, she is still a girl who knows what life is really about. Her mother passed away when she was young, so now she grasped the concept that death is just a part of life. Everyone has to die someday, and I think she knows how to make the best of her life. For example, she knows that if she brings her mom up to T-Ray, he will get really mad, and just punish her. Instead, she was smart enough to do what she wants, even if that was sneaking out of bed and going outside to be with her mothers momentums. I think that even though T-Ray abused her, it might have been a possible way that she was shaped into the person she was. Another example of this would be when Lily ran away. I know that running away from problems aren’t the smartest things to do, but if I were Lily, and if I would actually be able to leave home, I would have definitely run away.
ReplyDeleteOne thought I have about her is that she was one brave girl. She lost her mother at a very young age, but she wasn’t still in complete shock when her mother died, even though she didn’t know a lot about her mom, it seemed like she at least loved her, unlike T-Ray, so that shows how she was brave to overcome her mothers death. Another way she is brave is when T-Ray had abused her. He had made her kneel on grits, while being on a hard, wooden floor, for about an hour. This shows that if she can go through something as painful as that, she would be able to go through anything. Another time she was brave was when she had ran away from home, and had gotten Rosaleen out of jail. This was complete bravery because if she wasn’t in the hospital, she would have been in jail. This to me means it was probably as difficult to get Rosaleen out of the hospital because she was being watched. All in all, I think Lily is one brave girl.
Lily’s family situation has impacted her personality because ever since she left she has started lying a lot. Also she now is always mad at her self because of what she did to her mother. She has also been acting differently with Rosaleen. I don’t think that Lily is treating her that bad though; I think that Rosaleen is just over reacting. But there were some instances when Lily spoke for Rosaleen when she could have spoken for her self. For example when they both meet the sisters and they ask what their names are and other information about them and Lily answers all of them even the questions directed to Rosaleen. I still think that she is a nice girl that has made mistakes when she was younger that have affected her now.
ReplyDeleteLily’s has a terrible family if you can even call it a family. She does not have any real mother because her mother died when Lily was only four. Rosaleen acts as her stand-in mother, but most of her traits are that of a very stubborn person. One example of Rosaleen being stubborn is when she dumped all of her black snuff spit all over Franklin Posey’s shoes. He then attacked and beat her with his friends. Rosaleen was the one sent to jail and then they attacked her again in the hospital. They told her to apologize but Rosaleen being stubborn did not and they continued to beat her. This is not the mother that Lily needs because Lily will probably end up doing stupid things like Rosaleen. T-Ray does not act like a true father either because he does not care for Lily at all. It seems like T-Ray is just stuck with Lily because she barely has any friends and her mother is dead. This whole situation has impacted Lily severely, good and bad depending on how you look at it. All of this caused Lily to run away from T-Ray with Rosaleen to another town called Tiburon. Lily then almost changes into a completely new person. She lies about her name and breaks the law by breaking Rosaleen out of jail and stealing snuff. This is good because she does not have to deal with T-Ray abusing her and bad because she can die or get sent to jail by making a mistake.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Lily made the right decision by running away because T-Ray can’t punish her if he doesn’t know where she is located. Also Lily can also find more information about her mother from August. August and Lily’s deceased mother are somehow both connected because Lily’s mom had a picture of August. I predict that Lily will eventually form a good relationship with the Boatwright’s and ask them about her mother.
I think that through Lily’s struggles in going through such a critical time in her life has made her more mature and has taught her the true values of life. Without a mother, she has learned how to take care of herself and become more independent. Also, since her father is so tough on her, she has made herself a metaphoric suit of armor. She does anything it takes to do what she feels she needs to, like lying and breaking Rosaleen out of jail. Because she’s been through so much, and so many things have stopped her from doing what she wants, I think she now feels as if she must try harder to finally do something for her. When she was younger, she went to this manners school, but couldn’t graduate because she had no women she knew to help her graduate. Also, she didn’t have a mother to teach her all of the things about being a woman, so she had gone to the school to learn how to learn. She even said “they teach everything. How to walk and pivot, what to do with your ankles when you sit in a chair, how to get into a car, pour tea, take off your gloves..." Since she’s had fallen so many times, she probably is trying to get back onto her feet, and by doing this she’ll discover who she is. I wish that I could be more like Lily, and not let anything get me down. Also, Lily is starting to notice that she has control over her own life. When she gets out of the hospital with Rosaleen, Rosaleen says, “when did you start saying shitbucket” and Lily said, “I’m fourteen now. I guess I can say it if I want to.” By taking control of her own life, Lily will start to take a stand and not let anyone- not even T. Ray push her around.
ReplyDeleteLily didn’t have the best childhood. With no mother and an abusive father it prevented her from having friends. Her father would never buy her a brush or decent clothes so everyone made fun of her. No one ever became friends with her and the only person she had was Rosaleen. Lily’s personality was creative and all she really cared about was trying to be like her mother. She wasn’t the happiest person in the world but that is because her father ruined it for her. I think Lily is very nice and deserves some more respect. She is very creative and is good at making up excuses. I wonder how a young girl like her could be so smart
ReplyDeleteLily’s family situation has impacted her personality severely and is irritated by the results. The family situation of Lily has affected her to the potential in which she would desert her life entirely. After the incident with the gun, Lily’s life revolved around her in a different direction. The confrontation with the gun was the precarious because it ultimately had gotten Lily’s mother killed. Lily’s mother was Lily’s foundation as relationships with parents. Lily after the accidental death of her mom she is now a carefree and immensely affected by T-Ray’s behavior towards her. Lily’s motive is to basically abandon T-Ray’s presence in order to satisfy her life even without her mom. T-Ray had significantly affected Lily in the part in the book where T-Ray said Lily’s mom came back only to gather her belongings. This can completely diminish someone’s self-esteem and that is what T-Ray’s words did to Lily. The only person that Lily can actually confront without being shunted is Rosaleen. Rosaleen can act as Lily’s mother, friend, parent, and possibly a mentor. Lily’s family situation has no doubt affected her personality and that can definitely leave a scar on Lily’s life.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on how Lily’s personality was impacted by her family situation are that it made Lily a whole new human-being. Living with T-Ray is a like a living nightmare to Lily solely on the fact T-Ray is not the greatest parent someone could ask for. Lily’s life went downhill after the accident with the gun and Lily’s mother. That was a massive turning point in Lily’s life overall. I feel that Lily should deserve better treatment since her mother died. T-Ray should be concerned for Lily, but obviously T-Ray does not abide to the qualities of a good parent or father. That mentality has cause tension between Lily and her life in the future. My thoughts on Lily’s family situation is that she should be respected and not have to cope with the hardships that leave detrimental scars on Lily’s life emotionally.
Since Lily grew up with no mother (and was blamed for her death) her personality seems gloomy and sad. Yet Lily seems like she could be a very cheerful and bright person, but since people put her down and she has no one to turn too Lilly is hiding from everyone and is really just wanting to fit in. Lily has said that she ‘might as well worn a sign on my back: I’m not popular and never will be.’ I blame T-ray because doesn’t give her the things she deserves such as the good clothes (as Lily has to make her own in Home etc.).
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on Lily are that she seems like a really kind, friendly girl. But, she is sort of a Tomboy since she grew up with no mother figure then Rosaleen and lives on a farm. Then I also noticed that maybe Lily’s based off of the author herself, as Lily’s English teacher (“Please, Lily, you are insulting your fine intelligence. Do you have any idea how smart you are? You could be a professor or a writer with actual books to your credit. Beauty School. Please.”) Said something along the lines of what Sue Monk Kidd’s said to her.
Answer: 1. Lily’s family situation has deeply impacted her personality for these reasons. Lily has no friends, no mother and only has a father who beats her and that shows no love towards her at all. With no mother Lily really has no one personal (besides Rosaleen) to talk to or to receive advice from. So on top of having no love from her father Lily only has Rosaleen as a friend. Due to all of this Lily is shy and independent, so in school she doesn’t meet anyone or have any conversations with anyone her age. But through all that she has been through, she does seem to be nice during her interactions with Rosaleen. Not only that but with Lily’s deep feelings it has made her an excellent reader and writer. Also Lily has been shaped to be tough and brave since she has to deal with T. Ray’s beatings. So Lily’s personality is really just a shy mellow person who keeps to herself. That is how Lily’s personality has been shaped by her family situation.
ReplyDelete2. Personally I think Lily is a very interesting person with many different thoughts and feelings. In general I think Lily is a troubled soul with many deep dark feelings. For example, Lily feels terrible about her mother’s death because when she was four she accidently picked up a gun from the floor, which then suddenly went off, killing her mother. We know Lily feels terrible about this sine in the book she said if she met her mother in heaven she would say, “Mother, forgive. Please forgive.” But Lily is able to express her feelings through writing. Also I think Lily is a shy, independent girl accounting on how she really has no friends. Not only that but Lily is a strong brave little girl for putting up with T. Ray and his beatings. Lily seems nice since she always kind and polite to people in conversations. So basically I think Lily is a nice independent girl with a lot of things going on inside her head. That is what I think of Lily.
Lily's family actions have had a big impact on her personality. T-ray is really ruining this little girls life. And he doesn't even know it. I predict that when she grows up that she would be a very depressed person. She is so unhappy living there that she is basically forced to run away by the pain the T-ray is causing her. That is how i think Lily is going to grow up.
ReplyDeleteLily explained how there have been so many times when she coveted a mother. She's more of a lonely girl; she was unable to enter a pageant because she lacks a mother, and Rosaleen was unacceptable as a makeshift mother in this situation. She doesn't have many friends, she doesn't have a supportive father, and a nanny that doesn't have the compassion to show how much she really cares for Lily. Lily doesn't have a mother, which is the main reason Lily isn't like a normal girl. She doesn't have a nice common charm bracelet because T-Ray refuses the purchasing of this item, and there's no mother to go sneak out and buy it for her, outlawing the ruling of her father.
ReplyDeleteI find Lily as a caterpillar waiting for spring– a spring that is non-existent– to emerge into a beautiful butterfly. Lily doesn't know how close she really is to her mother, even though she's not with her anymore. Lily really is an ambitious person that likes adventure and knows what a good time is, but is hesitant against it. At times, she can be a bit hard to read, but she really cares for people that care for her, being the sole Rosaleen, which I predict there will be more to come.
Lily’s family situation impacted her personality in many different ways. One way was that her personality became hard and tough, and she became more so of a “tom boy”. She had no one that truly loved her, and she didn’t have anyone that really took good care of her. I think if she would have had a better and nicer father, and have had a mother, she maybe would have been a little nicer, and have better manners. Also maybe she would have had more friends because she would have been a more pleasant person. My thoughts about Lily vary in many directions. I think she is very nice, but her appearance isn’t the prettiest. I think Lily is a motivated person, smart, and is very brave. I would have never had the guts to run away from home, an not know where I was going. Also, I would be really scared.
ReplyDeleteLily’s family situation has impacted her personality causing her to be very protective of her feelings and a liar. This is because she accidentally killed her mother and her father abuses and doesn’t love her. Also, she has no friends at school and is living a very sad and rough life. She lies because I feel she doesn’t receive the truth. She has been lied to her whole life by T-ray, so it seems lies and lying is the only thing she really knows. This impacts her personality because no one likes a liar and lying is very bad. My thoughts about her are that she is a very troubled girl that has a bad past. But, I feel that over this amount of time with her in this new environment will help her re- grow as a person from the dying self she was before. I have a very good feeling that her true personality will soon shine and that it will be as bright as day. : )
ReplyDeleteLily’s family situation has impacted her personality because she probably is not as sympathetic or as gentile as she would be if she had a mother to teach her or inspire her. Her personality is also a lot stronger, yet sadder with her father being the way he is, and acting in a way that no one should at toward someone else. My thoughts about her are that she is inspiring, to be such a young girl, with so much bravery to do the unthinkable to most young kids, like for instance, runaway from a bad family life, break someone you love for and care for out of jail, or at the time, the hospital, and much more.
ReplyDeleteI think that Lily's family situation has made a very very big impact on her personality. The reason it made such a big impact is because she killed her mom at a young age and had to be tough and act more mature because she didn't have a mom also she was treated very badly by her dad and this made her think that she was not loved at all so that's giving her the impression to never love anyone else because no one loves her. Her life has been very hard and it was not good at all. Her dad was so mean to her it was bad he made her kneel on grits and do all kinds of mean things. The thoughts i have of her is that when she gets older shes going to not be normal. I think this because right now she thinks that shes not loved so she will not be able to be loving and caring to anyone in her life because she doesn't know what that's like
ReplyDeleteLily has been a much different person then she could have been. Her mother was accidently killed by Lily and she always thinks of herself as a bad person ever since. She loved her mother and allegedly her mother loved her. Lily loves her housekeeper Rosaleen, and Rosaleen loves her. Lily dreamed of running way with Rosaleen and begins a new life with her because of how much she hates T-Ray.
ReplyDeleteI think Lily hates T-Ray so much to the point that she left. Now she is basically living on the street which is probably a down grade to when she was living with T-Ray. At least there she could get meals and work on the peach farm. She is sort of a rebel and refuses to work at the farm and get tortured by T-Ray with the Grits on her knees. She absolutely hates T-Ray but at least cared enough to keep her and not throw her on the streets.

Lily's family situation impacted her personality because she went from a happy child who loved her mother dearly and still does even though her mother is dead. She became a sad child who doesn't have many friends or even one close friend and her father doesn't even care about her and treats her like dirt. My thoughts on Lily are that she can change her personality as fast as it was impacted. I believe that she still can change her personality quickly with the help of the Boatwright sisters because the sisters are very caring even June who is stubborn and not that easy to handle.
ReplyDeletemy opinion on lily's personality for her family situation is that it made her a little more less talkative, and she hasn't had any good friends in the book, and she has became more solid and tougher. my thoughts about Lily is that she has more personality than she expresses, because T-Ray made her not believe in herself.
