- In what ways are the characters like the bees mentioned in the quote above?
the qoute relates to the characters because lily and rosleine are on the run like bees. they bump into the calendar girls. making new friends kinda like honey making.
ReplyDeleteThe Quote above tells us everyone has their secrets big or small but no one wants anyone to no about it that is why it is a secret in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThe quote is saying that bees have a secret of life, that we don't know about. That's why we learn about bees , so we learn their secret that we don't know. Books and articles tell us about the secret. The quote for this chapter, might tell us the secret of the bees.
ReplyDeleteWe hope that we will learn about this secret while we read this chapter and maybe we will come across our answer.
I think this quote relates to Lily how she is keeping secrets from the calender sisters. And how Lily and Rosaleen has secrets in their lives that happened. The calendar sisters only know i few things about Lily and Rosaleen.
ReplyDeleteI think that the characters are linked to this quote. Lily for example has a secret life for sure. She ran away from her evil home with T. Ray and helped break her friend out of jail. She is now on the road and running from the police. Lily claims that her father was killed but really she ran away because of his horrible abuse. Also I believe that May had a secret life as well. At the store she was being made fun of and being harassed by people because of her skin color. She then was all sad and depressed on the inside and had suicidal thoughts. This is a bit of a secret life because she told no one about her ideas of suicide. Then finally she killed her self in her secret life. Rosaleen also has a secret life because she sees August as Lily’s take in mother. This then makes her a whole new person so she might be considered as having a secret life also.
ReplyDeleteLily said “she is living in a dream world” in some ways a dream world is like a secret world. They are alike because they are both created from one person’s imagination. In this case it’s Lily’s secret life is created by using her own ideas and thoughts and the bees secret life was created by the bees. The “not knowing” part is associated with the fact that the bees lives no one knows about, and k no one knows about Lily’s secret life either besides Rosaleen.
ReplyDelete• How does she compare the world to bees? What IS bee yard etiquette?
ReplyDelete• In what ways has "bee yard etiquette" impacted the characters in the novel so far?
Bee yard etiquette compares to the world of bees by saying that the yard should be just like the hive the bees live in. Everything needs to me cool and calm for the honey to be extracted properly. Bee yard etiquette is the way everything should be when you try to make or take the honey from the bees. Bee yard etiquette compares to the characters because it shows how the people are around the bees. It also shows how the people are compared to bees. Everybody is buzzing about there own problems. That is how people are compared to bee yard etiquette
Like this quote explains people along with bees have secret lives and they don’t want anyone to know about them. Lily is living a secret life here at the pink house where she is under a false name and trying to hide from T-Ray and the cops. Lily prays to the black Madonna statue to keep the pink house hidden from the world. Honey making inside the hive is kind of like the bees trying to keep their secrets hidden to stay alive. As the story goes along it gets harder and harder for Lily to keep her secret from August since they begin to like each other more and more, which shows the theme of bee keeping.
ReplyDeleteThe quote above relates to the characters. This quote mainly relates to Lily. Since Lily hasn’t told the Boatwright sisters about her and Rosaleen’s life. Running away from her old life they keep a low profile and try to never mention about it again. This makes the quote extremely relevant to this novel. The girls keep their life out of the Boatwright sisters and hope it will never interfere with their life ever again. Now the girls are making new friends and starting a new life.
ReplyDeleteI think that the charters all like bees because there is one Queen. With both cases there is always one in charge. But, also each need each other to function. Like if the Boatrights didn’t let Lily stay with them she probably would have to live on the streets with Rosaleen. Also May needs her sisters to help her and take care of her. And some people don’t like each other but they still have to work together and the same thing with bees.
ReplyDeleteI think that August said this quote to affect Lily the most. She has a feeling that Lily is hiding something from her but she doesn’t know what yet. She thinks that maybe this quote will make Lily think about telling her what is really going on. Lily is living in many secret worlds because she constantly lies about who she is. August doesn’t know anything about Lily’s life in Sylvan. On the flip side, T. Ray doesn’t know anything about her secret life in Tiburon. This whole part of her life is a secret from her not-so-loving father. The quote was meant to get the truth out of Lily by making her consider telling her story.
ReplyDeleteJust like how the bees have a secret life that humans knew nothing about, the Boatwright’s and all black people were the same way back then. No white person wanted anything to do with black people in the times of segregation, just like people say that bees don’t know anything they are just some insect. The bees have their own world just like the Boatwright’s do. No one wanted anything to do with black people but then the Boatwright’s started to sell their honey and some white people thought that they made the best honey in the world. Then they realized that these black people had a really good thing going in their secret pink honey house. Bees live in their own hive away from the rest of the world just like the Boatwright’s do in their pink house.
ReplyDelete“Bees have a secret life we don’t know anything about.” Lily is a lot like the bees mentioned in this quote. She has been telling everyone lies about her life and keeping everything a secret. No one really knows anything about Lily, except for Rosaleen. Rosaleen and Lily are both keeping their identity a secret. June also has a secret about why she won’t marry Neil. Everyone knows that they like each other, but don’t know why she won’t admit it.
ReplyDelete“Bees have a secret life we don’t know anything about,” August Boatwright once told Lily. This quote really applies to the novel because many of the characters have secret lives as well. Probably the characters with the biggest secrets are Lily and Rosaleen. Lily ran away from home and her horrible father, T. Ray. She then proceeded to break Rosaleen out of jail and then hitchhiked all the way to Tiburon, South Carolina. She also is looking to find out more about her mother, whom she killed when she was only four years old. Lily has all these secrets to worry about while being on the run from police and her father. Rosaleen has to deal with the secret of being a fugitive, and that is a pretty big secret to keep from someone. The Calendar Sisters have secrets of their own. For example, they had the secret of their sister, April, which they revealed to Lily and Rosaleen. They could also have many other secrets as well. Obviously, Lily has the most secrets out of them all. In addition, she has lots of lies to cover up these secrets. I want to know what will happen when, or if, Lily reveals her secrets.
ReplyDelete“Bees have a secret life we don't know anything about.” This quote relates to lily in many ways. Lily has a secret life that no one knows except for Rosaleen. There are many secrets to lily’s “secret life.” Running away from T.ray is part of it and her moms death is too. The criminal acts are also part of her secret life no one knows about. This is like bees because no one knows how bees live inside the hive. No one knows the secret life of bees.
ReplyDeleteThe characters in this story are related to this quote because they all have secret lives no one knows about. I think August brought this quote up because she knows Lily is keeping some sort of secret. She is also saying that the bees are very quiet and stick to their work just to servive just like Lily and Rosaleen. Another character,April, was living a secret life because she hated the fact of being disliked for her skin color. She kept this all a secret until she killed herself.
ReplyDeleteThe characters in the book are like the bees because the can get mad but they are mostly calm. You can’t be scared of them just like bees. In order to keep the house peaceful just relax and don’t get angry. Just like bees. Keep the house clean and make food that is good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteThe bees represent the people in the house. Get too busy and annoyed then the house or “the hive” will fall apart.
The quote said by August mainly pertains to Lily and Rosaleen. Upon entering the Beekeeping estate, Lily and Rosaleen decided upon keeping their identity isolated from their actual identity. Ever since Lily and Rosaleen entered in the sister’s Beekeeping estate, there is still a secretive life that Lily and Rosaleen both possess in which is to not be talked about. In other words, bees are Lily and Rosaleen and they both have a secret life that should not be conversed upon. Based on that, August and other calendar sisters don’t identify or recognize the “secret life,” of both Lily and Rosaleen. This is a way that the quote has a distinct correlation to Lily and Rosaleen. The personalities of Lily and Rosaleen are still to be discovered by the calendar sisters and the personality and characteristics is formally know as their “secret life.”
ReplyDeleteThe bees’ secret lives remind me of Lily’s life to the sisters, she hides the truth. They do not know about her abusive father, T-Ray. Lily told them he was killed and her mom died when she was young. They do not know that she had broke Rosaleen out of jail, either. She tells them she is going to live with her aunt. June almost caught her lying, she got her to talk about her “aunt” and suddenly Lily knew more about her aunt than she originally said. August tells Lily she may stay as long as she needs to. If the sister knew the truth that Lily’s father is probably searching for her she may still be hitch-hiking.

ReplyDeleteLily is like a bee with no queen. (Her mother is the queen.) She doesn’t know what to do with herself really. Since she showed unmistakable signs of queenlessness, her beekeeper ordered her a new queen. Lily spent too much of her life feeling like a bee with no queen- lonely, sad, and pitiful, even when she was at the Boatwrights. She didn’t notice the love all around her from Rosaleen, August, May, June, Zach, the Daughters, even Neil. With the help of these new queens, she straightened up her life again.
August is like one of the Queen’s direct helping staff members who primp her all day. August is good at caring for people and is extremely compassionate. She has the ability to put the Queen’s needs before her own. She is wise, and can handle any situation easily. She is one of those bees that every bee can look up to and say, “Wow. I really want to be just like you.”
The Secret Life of Bees really is about the secret life of bees (:
