  1. In this chapter 5 Lily wonders if T-Ray misses her in Sylvan South Carolina. She is in the darkness at the honey house with August and others. In a way Lily hopes that t-Ray misses her so she could come back to a new healthy home environment. She still misses her mother deeply and wishes she hadn’t accidently killed her. It is difficult to live on your own with Rosaleen who was mad at her for speaking for her and not letting her talk for herself. She feels self-conscious about her skin color and that she is black and everybody else is colored and not as nice to her.

  2. The quote in the beginning of chapter five it relates to events in chapter five by how Lily is getting used to living in the calendar sisters. Lily is not normally used to being around so many bees and instead of selling peaches she is helping make honey which is a lot different. She also has to get used to be around completely different people. Instead of being around white people she is around colored people. She gets to experience new things and learn new things. She is learning a lot about why May is like she is. She learns about how May is very specific on how her bananas are like and how the tiniest of bruises will upset her. May as Lily learned is very caring to all living things and thats why she doesn't allow rat traps. May also feels the pain of the rest of the world. She always feels pain when others do. The quote really describes a lot of events in the chapter and really explains Lily life at the time.

  3. These sisters are very kind. They are letting two people that they don't even know stay in their house and work. Even though they are black and are treated so badly by whites, they still took hay chance and let Lily and Rosaleen stay in their house. June, is very strict and mean to Lily. We all know that white discriminate against blacks, but June treats Lily bad because she is white. I like all of the sister but if i had to choose one as my favorite and one as my least favorite, August would be my favorite because she acts like a mother to Lily and comforts her when she is sad. June is my least favorite because she doesn't treat Lily very nicely. She is use to Lily now, she should really give her a chance and stop treating her the way she is now.
