ReplyDeleteThe Calendar Sister’s Beekeeping Estate, Tiburon, South Carolina:
ReplyDeleteThe estate just past Tiburon’s Main Street, right near the highway to Florence is gorgeous. The visitors will meet some lovely sisters, who are called June, May, and August. When you first arrive at their estate, you will be shocked to see the color of the house of the three sisters. The house is an extremely bright pink, a color as bright as Pepto-Bismol. With the green trees bordering it, is looks even brighter. You will then see August working with the bees, near the disorganized honey house. Using smoke to calm them, she will gradually emerge “like a dream rising up from the sky.” (P67) When June and May answer the door, they will welcome you into their house. Their house has a classical style, with plenty of shine and effort put into keeping it beautiful. In their sitting room, the three sisters have a statue of black Mary; a Mary that inspires awe into those that look upon it. Once the three sisters have welcomed you, they will show you their work. Their life and livelihood was bees. All over both the property and the county, the Boatwright sisters have bee hives.
Throughout the entire property, you can hear the sounds of a trickling stream in the distance, some bees working out in the world, and perhaps the sound of May Boatwright singing the honey song.
The visitors will eat many different types of foods. As May eats only a perfect banana every morning, there are multiple less than perfect bananas opened every morning. Some of those bananas are used to make delicious banana crème pies, banana bread, and some other things. Visitors might eat candlestick salad, a banana stood up in a ring of pineapple. All visitors will also eat enough honey to turn any type of hair silky smooth.
Visitors can help with the beekeeping, as that is always appreciated. There is much to do for keeping them happy, as well as making good honey. One could send a super, a tray filled with honey and beeswax through the uncapper. Then, a visitor could put the wax through the wax melter, then, finally putting it through the spinner. To make what we recognize as honey, however the materials would be put through a baffle tank, a warming pan, and a settling tank. Visitors could visit May’s wailing wall, though a visitor might feel like they are intruding.
Some rare sights include a happy June, a mad August, and a giggling May.
Visitors will see chive, dill weed, and lemon balm. You can hear sad violin music and bees. You can see their pink house. Visitors will eat honey from the swarming bees that you can hear. Activities that visitors can do are collect honey and visit different sights. Some sights that people see are watching the frames of honeycombs in neat rows with honey sealed over with beeswax. The person who will host my visit is May because she lives there.
