  1. Secret Life of Bees and Freedom Writers are very similar in many different ways. Both of them are in parts of the United States where there is a lot of racism and backgrounds based people. There is a lot in both stories for example in Secret Life of Bees there was a lot of racism because it was in the south and during the Civil Rights Movement. During this time black were slaves and treated unfairly. In Freedom Writers it was not only about color it was about religion. They talked about Hitler and what happened during World War 2. In both stories there were different kinds of racism agents people. They were both very sad and changed people in a very good way. These stories show that there are people out there that don’t care what people look like or where they came from but who they are. These stories showed that, for Secret Life of Bees Lily don’t treat Rosaleen any different because of her color and in Freedom Writers Mrs. Gruwell didn’t treat any student in her class differently she treated them as one.

  2. Freedom Writers and bees are very similar. Freedom Writers are a group of high school students who live in the gangs. The gang is those kid's home-the place where they feel most secure. They will do anything to protect the members of their gang- even if it means hurting someone else. Once you get past their tough, hard exterior, those kids are just like anyone else. They are poeple who need love- and they will give you love in return.
These characteristics are just like those of bees. Bees stay in their groups and will do anything to protect their mother- the queen bee. If anyone tries to huirt them, or one of their fellow bees, they will sting you in an act of protecting themselves. As August said in the novel, "If you give a bee love, they will give you love back." If you don't scream or swat at a bee, they won't sting you. That's like in Freedom Writers how if you are nice to those kids, you will find that they are just troubled kids just like everyone else. That is how bees are like the Freedom Writers.

  3. They are similar by they are still in racism and they are being put into different schools. Some of the kids in Freedom writers ran away from home like Lily and Rosaleen did in Bees. They sometimes want to go back but Lily and Rosaleen don’t want to leave the great life they have right now. Even in Freedom writers the kid went back to their homes because the teacher made them relize the great things they have in life.

  4. The book and Freedom Writers are similar in a lot of different ways. Both take place in a time when people were treated badly, as f they were inferior just because of their background, their heritage, even the color of their skin. But, in both stories, Lily and Mrs. G’s class stand up and write for what they believe in, The Freedom Writers Spoke out against racism, and Lily was defiant to believe herself to be above colored people, no matter where she lived.

  5. The ways that Bees and Freedom Writers are similar are the characters. A few of them don't care about life anymore in Freedom Writers and also Lily, in the middle of the book. The teacher in Freedom Writers helped her students to get a lot better in high school while in Bees the Calendar Sisters helped Lily and somewhat cured her when she was depressed. And also the people in Freedom Writers, some students are cruel to other, and in Bees T-ray is cruel to Lily. This is how Freedom Writers and Bees are similar.

  6. Well in both movies there are alot of rejects and people with out familys. They needed to rely on there freinds. Another thing is that there are many things about both movies that have to do with emotion. In every sence or chapter there must be emotion. Another way to relate these both emotionaol stories is that they all have 1 main character sturrggling by addtping to a new life style. Like that teacher(i forgot her name) and Lily both moved to diffrents parts and they learned new things.

  7. The bees and the Freedom Writers are similar because in a way they both fight for equality in their own ways. The bees fight for equality by not spreading any discrimination. Even when others are prejudice toward them they are not prejudice toward those people. The bees also have a connection and ways to stop the spread of racism. They show people they know the they are not so different from each other. They also show tolerance and acceptance when they come to Lily. Even though she was a complete stranger she was welcomed with warm arms at least from August and May. The bees have always been there for each other and they always will. The freedom writers fight for equality by throwing benefit concerts and starting to realize that they are all similar when it comes to music and other stuff. The ones that had a lot of problems with each other now have a more peaceful relationship and lead an entire city to do the same. They showed that with understanding and friendship you can overcome any challenge that they comes across. They show true leadership and bravery to step out of their comfort space and meet new people and stop violence.

  8. Bees and Freedom Writers are similar. In the bee book segregation is supposed to stop but old habits have it that they can’t stop segregating. Just like in writers the whites and colored kids segregate each other. This made them very violent and kids would come to school with weapons. Also helping takes place in the two. Lily help Rosaleen from segregation and the teacher helps the kids get smarter and attempt for them to pass school. The teacher ends up making every one pass and everyone was happy. That is how the Bees are like the Freedom writers.

  9. Bees and Freedom Writes are the same because they both fight against the same enemy. They both fight hate. In Freedom Writers, a lot of gangs and groups hate each other. In Bees, races of people hate each other. However, there is always someone that wants to change things for the better. In Freedom Writers, the protagonist is the teacher. She helps the children stop hating each other and just live together. In Bees, Lily is the one that changes things. She lives with African Americans when she is white. That was frowned upon in that time. This is how Bees and Freedom Writers are very similar.

  10. Freedom Writers and Secret Life of Bees are similar in a lot of ways. The first way is they both have to do with discrimination. In Freedom Writers they discriminated against each other. In Secret Life of Bees the government discriminated against African American people. Lily wrote down her feelings in her notebook. The Freedom Writers did the same thing only a group of people did it. They are very similar and I like both Freedom Writers and Secret Life of Bees.

  11. The Secret Life of Bees and Freedom Writers are similar in many ways. One way is that they both include a lot of discrimination. In The Secret Life of Bees, many African Americans, like Rosaleen, get discriminated because of their skin color. For example, when the Boatwright’s called the cops when May killed herself, the cop talked to Lily and told her not to live with the Boatwright’s because of their skin color. He said that it would be better if she went to her aunt’s house more quickly rather than live with the Boatwright’s. Similarly, in Freedom Writers, people discriminated against the gangs. Another thing is that in Freedom Writers, the students write in their journals to let their feelings out about anything. They wrote things that would help them get out all their emotions. Just like that, Lily writes in her journal that she got from her crush, Zach. She writes things about her and Zach. She writes stories in it to let her feelings out. Also, The Secret Life of Bees and Freedom Writers both have violence in them. In The Secret Life of Bees, there is violence when Zach’s friend made one guy’s nose bleed. He threw the bottle and was then arrested. Freedom Writers includes violence too because there are a lot of fights in the town and in the school. The gangs would punch and fight with many people, which proved that there was excessive violence. In addition, there was even inspiration that was a big part in Freedom Writers and Bees. In Freedom Writers, the students had their teacher as their inspiration. She was the one who taught them to read and write. She showed them the outside, things besides violence. The students were really inspired by their teacher and they really looked up to her. In the novel we are reading, August is Lily’s inspiration. Lily really looks up to her. August taught Lily several things, which were not only about beekeeping, but were also inspirational stories about the black Mary. Lily loved listening to her stories and therefore, she looked up to August greatly.

  12. Freedom Writers and The secret life of bees is related in so many ways. They both are about the civil rights movement and about how people are racist to blacks and how everyone is mean to each other. In freedom writers people were mean to each other and in this book the people are rude and obnoxious to each other. The way Lily gets treated by her dad is so bad he doesn't even deserve the title dad he abuses her and beats her and hurts her. In freedom writers the teacher had to teacher every to be nice to each other and that fighting wasn't the answer to things and that you had to sort things out by not fighting. So these to things are very similar and both are about civil rights.
