On page 105, May made an "L" pancake for Lily. June throws it in the trash.
Response Requirement:
- Besides "Lily," pick an "L" word that applies to Lily. Explain (and use a quote) to show the word's importance.
- Pick one more character and come up with a word that describes them using the first letter of their name. Explain the word's importance.
The “L” word that I picked for Lily is lively. I picked his because Lily most of the time is lively. When they where all in the sprinkler together Lily was the one getting everybody more excited to do it. Lily is never just down in the dumps and not talking and just depressing, she is always looking for something fun and to give people cheer.
ReplyDeleteFor the other character I picked August, and for her word I picked accepting. This word basically defines August for who she is. She willingly took in Rosaleen and Lily without hesitation. She is always open to other people’s feelings, and will help anybody that is in need of help.
L for lily that fits her. L can also be for lovable which lily is. Lily is the kind of person in the book that every can love if they have a heart. Everyone in the book loves lily besides t-ray because he hates life and everything in it. June might have hated lily when she first moved in but know she loves her just like everyone else. She came to know lily and realized she isn’t like all other whites she’s a really nice one. Many l words fit lily especially lovable.
ReplyDeleteMotherly is for May. Motherly fits may because she feels everyone’s pain and suffering just like a mom. When something happens to someone she knows or even if she doesn’t know them she still feels their pain and suffering. May cared about everyone in the pink house and she had an especial soft spot for Zack she loved him like a brother she never had. So yes motherly does stand for may.
One word that applies to Lily is “love.” I think this word is perfect for Lily because she is dedicated to everything she does. To have that kind of dedication, you need to truly love something. Lily absolutely loves her mother, and everything she has done so far revolves around her mom. Lily loves many other things. She loves the Calendar Sisters, she loves Rosaleen, she loves Zach, she loves writing, and he loves putting peanuts in her coke. Of course, the feeling she has for peanuts and coke isn’t going to be the same feeling she has for her mother. August once said that some languages have over thirty different ways of saying the word love, and in English, there is only one. Regardless of this barrier, Lily is a loving person, and this word describes her well.
ReplyDeleteAugust is another important character in the book. One word that describes her well is “admirable.” This word is just perfect for her because she really is someone to be admired. Like Lily, she is extremely dedicated. To her friends, to her family, and to the bees. Just the way she looks at life is something to admire. Her attitude towards everything is laid-back, but stern. She doesn’t freak out about things, like Zach going to jail, but she always knows what to do. She will gladly take care of May when she is upset. And August always tends to the bees without fail. She is an eccentric person with an amazing personality. Obviously, August is a good role model and someone to be admired.
an l word that describes lily is lost. lily doesnt know what to do anymore, and she feels without her knowing who her mother was, she is lost
ReplyDeletea word for may would be muffled, because her acts are not what they would have been if april hadnt killed herself. may would probably be a completely different person.
L is for Lilly. One L word that could describe Lily is lost. Before she met the Calendar sisters, Lily was completely and totally lost in the world. She felt like she didn’t have a family, and Rosaleen was the only one who loved her. Even when she escaped from T-Ray, she had nowhere to go, and remained lost in life. But once she found the Calendar sisters, she started getting closer to finding herself, and a place where she belongs. However, when it comes down to it, Lily has been lost ever since the day her mother died.
ReplyDeleteT is for T-Ray. One T word that can describe T-Ray is thoughtless. He doesn’t think about what he is doing a lot. When he put Lily on the Martha Whites, do you think he stopped for a second to think about what he was doing to his daughter? I don’t think he did. T-Ray never stopped to think about what he was doing. He didn’t think about his daughter, and what she might want. My guess is that T-Ray didn’t even think of anyone but himself. T-Ray is a cruel and selfish man, who never even thought of his daughter, his only child.
An L word that describes lily is loveable. Throughout the story we realize that lily is very down on herself and says that she is unlovable and that no one will ever love her. The truth is that she doesn’t see how many people care and lover her. She is a very intelligent and strong young lady, which makes her a very lovable person to the calendar sisters. I have a prediction that by the end of the book she will say something such as she realizes that she is loved and she will finally be rid of T-ray and be loved by all of the woman whose lives she’s touched. A J word that describes June is judgmental. June is very judgmental of everything lily and rosaleen does, especially lily. I think this is because June has a wall built up around her and it’s hard to let people into her life so suddenly. I also predict that June will eventually open up to them and they can all live together in harmony.
ReplyDeleteLily is many things. One of those things she is is a Liar. I think it’s pretty obvious how this applies to Lily. Lily is constantly telling lies about her life and how she feels. Lily has lied about one of the most important things in Life, family! Lily told the Boatwrights that her father died in a tractor accident when he has been at home wondering where she is the entire time. Her entire life is a lie. August may be able to see right through her lies, but all Lily has been doing is fibbing. There is no Aunt Bernie up North where she can go live, she’s not an orphan, and she didn’t just randomly come upon the Boatwright’s house. Once the truth comes out Lily’s life will go from liberate, to livid.
ReplyDeleteAugust has a word that starts with a and describes her perfectly. That word is awesome. August is awesome because she is letting Lily and Rosaleen stay in her home. She is being Lily’s stand-in mother and caring for her before Lily decides to leave and let the truth come out. August is awesome also because she is always caring for everyone and teaching them new things. She will be there for you no matter what. She is awesome and couldn’t be a better person. If June was a little more like August, then the Boatwrights would be an even more awesome family.
Another word for lily is lonely. She must feel so out of place living with bunch of of colored women. But living with a mouse is better than living with T-ray. And May is definitely motherly. her cooking and her personality is loving like a mother. So Lily is lonely and May is motherly.
