(3/27) Oh, Susanna!

Chapter(s) #10

Prompt:
Stephen Foster wrote the original lyrics in 1847.
I come from Alabama
With my banjo on my knee
I'm going to Louisiana,
My true love for to see

It rained all night
The day I left
The weather it was dry
The sun so hot,
I froze to death
Susanna, don't you cry

Oh, Susanna,
Oh don't you cry for me
For I come from Alabama
With my banjo on my knee

I had a dream the other night
When everything was still
I thought I saw Susanna
A-coming down the hill

The buckwheat cake
Was in her mouth
The tear was
In her eye
Says I, I'm coming from the south
Susanna, don't you cry

Oh, Susanna,
Oh don't you cry for me
For I come from Alabama
With my banjo on my knee

I came from Salem City
with my washpan on my knee
I'm going to California,
the gold dust for to see.
It rained all night the day I left,
the weather it was dry
The sun so hot I froze to death,
Oh, brothers don't you cry.
Oh, Susannah, Oh, don't you cry for me
I'm going to California with my washpan on my knee.
I soon shall be in Frisco
and there I'll look around.
And when I see the gold lumps there,
I'll pick them off the ground.
I'll scrape the mountains clean, my boys,
I'll drain the rivers dry.
A pocketful of rocks bring home,
So, brothers don't you cry.

    I come from Tiburon
With my honey in a sack
    I’m going to my wall
My despair will not come back

    I cried all night
    The day she left us
My cheeks they were so wet
    From tears I cried
    The moon was so bright
    Like the night you died
    April, please come home

    Oh, my sister
    I will cry for you
    For you came from Tiburon
And half of my life is you

I had a dream the other night
    While I looked so meek
I thought I saw my April
    A-Coming through the creek

    The honey cake
    Of Mary Day
    As she came
    And walked by
She said I’m coming from heaven
    May, please, don’t you cry

    Oh, my sister
    I will cry for you
    For you came from Tiburon
And half of my life is you

  2. I came from Sylvan
    With Rosaleen at my side
    I’m going to Tiburon
To find where my mom was from

I had a dream of my mom
    She was a roach
It scared me a bit but then I knew
    That everything was fine

    Oh, T. Ray,
I know you won’t cry for me
    I come from sylvan
    With Rosaleen at my side

  3. I came from Sylvan,Carolina
With gritz marks on my knees
    I’m going to Tiburon
    With nothing but a dream

    The banana bread cake
    Was in the oven
    The tears were
    In May’s eye
Says I, I’m coming for my aunt
Oh August don’t make me say goodbye

  4. I came from Richmond, Virginia
with my baking pan on my knee
    I'm going to my family,
    the whole heaven to see.
You cried all night the day I left,
    the policeman he was dry
The wall so filled, I chose my death,
    Oh, sisters don't you cry.
Oh, dear sisters, Oh, don't you cry for me
I'm going to heaven with my baking pan on my knee.
I soon shall be with April
    and there I'll look around.
And when I see the happiness there,
I'll look for you beneath heaven’s ground.
I'll bake the places clean, my girls,
    Don’t cry the rivers dry.
A pocketful of bugs bring home,
    So, sisters don't you cry.

    I come from Sylan
With bruised Rosaleen next to me
    I'm going to Tiburon,
The black Mary for me to see

  5. Oh Dear august
Oh don’t you cry for me
For I come to you from heaven
    With April by my side

I had a dream the other night
When I was still up there
I though I was with you
    But you really weren’t there

  6. I come from Sylvan, Carolina
With the black Mary with me
    I'm going to Tiburon,
For the mean T-Ray to see.

    It was sad that time,
    The day April left
The whole wide world looked sad.
    The tears I shed,
    I was almost dead.
    May, don't you cry.

  7. Oh, August,
Oh don't you cry for me
    For I come from Tiburon
With my cookbook on my knee

    I came from Tiburon
with my apron on my knee
    I'm going to Heaven,
To be with Big Momma you see.
Zach was in jail the day I left,
    the weather it was fine
The mood was so sad I got upset,
    Oh, sisters don't you cry.
Oh, August, Oh, don't you cry for me
I'm going to Heaven with my cookbook on my knee.
I soon shall be in Heaven
    and there I'll look around.
And when I see the Ma and Pa there,
I'll tell them you said “hi.”
I'll pick out some bananas, my girls,
I'll pick the banana trees dry.
A pocketful of memories to bring to Heaven,
    So, sisters don't you cry.

  8. I come from Carolina
With a friend here at my side
    I’m going to Tiburon
For my good mom was once here

    It was a happy day
    The day I left
    The weather it was dry
    It so nice
    I loved her so
    Oh Momma don’t you cry
    Lily

    Oh Great Sisters
Oh don’t you cry for me
    For I come from Tiburon
With a wall right next to me

I got a call the other day
For it was oh so cold
    I thought I heard a crazy tale
But then found out it was real
    May

  9. I come from Sylvan,
With a nanny by my side,
    I’m going to Tiburon,
To find out more about my life.

    Oh, Rosaleen
Now don’t you go scaring me,
We both come from a crazy place,
We only have you and me

  10. I walked to the water
With a rock tied 'round my side
I'm going to go to heaven
    With April I'll reside

    I was weighed down
    The day I left
    With misery and woe
    I missed April,
    I wanted death
    My sisters, don't you cry

    Oh, my sisters
    Please don't cry for me
    For I'll be happier
    With April here to see
